NHL Three Stars: Bishop blanks Blueshirts 2-0 for SCF berth

No. 1 Star: Ben Bishop, Tampa Bay Lightning

In the his last game versus New York, Bishop was pulled after giving up 5 goals against – at home. There was some scepticism as to how he’d do in Game 7 at MSG, even though if he shut-out the Rangers on the road in Game 5. Bishop went and did it again. He stopped all 22 shots on goal and helped to lead the Lighting to the Stanley Cup Final.

No. 2 Star: Alex Killorn, Tampa Bay Lightning

Kilorn delivered the first dagger of the game 1:54 into the third period when he spun away from Dominic Moore along the side boards and sent a backhand shot through the legs of Henrik Lundqvist, dribbling into the back of the net. It would prove to be the game winner.

No. 3 Star: Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers

Lundqvist played one helluva game for his team. Early on, he looked practically unbeatable as he made incredible saves, including this one off the tip of his glove in the first period. Yet even those who seem infalable must fall at times, allowing 2 goals on 25 shots.

Honorable Mention: Ryan Callahan had 7 of Tampa’s 22 shots on goal in the game … Ondrej Palat scored the second goal for the Lightning in their 2-0 win. Bishop played the puck behind his net to Tyler Johnson who speedily took it up ice. After receiving Johnson’s past, Palat sent a snap shot past Lundqvist:

… Rangers were not whistled for any penalties in the game … New York centermen kept their counterparts on Tampa below 46-percent on the faceoff dot … Matt Carle did not have a great start to his game. Then he steam rolled Chris Kreider:

Did You Know? Tampa Bay’s last and only appearance in the Stanley Cup Final was in 2004 – when they won.

Dishonorable Mention: Rangers were 0-for-2 on the power play … We have to hear the nickname ‘The Triplets’ for at least another four games … Dominic Moore on ice for both Lightning goals … NYR credited with 15 giveaways to TBL’s 5.
