NHL Three Stars: Domi, Larkin remind everyone there are other rookies in the league

No. 1 Star: Max Domi, Arizona Coyotes

In his first NHL regular season tilt, Domi got his first point, first goal, and first multi-point game all out of the away against the Los Angeles Kings. Domi assisted on Oliver Ekman-Larsson’s goal to put the Coyotes up 2-0 and followed it up with a laser of a goal past Jonathan Quick to go up 3-0.

No. 2 Star: Dylan Larkin, Detroit Red Wings

Like Domi, the youngster ticked off firsts in all categories listed above and added ‘first time goal scored leads to a goalie being pulled’ when he put the puck up and over the shoulder of Jonathan Bernier. Detroit goes up 3-0 and Bernier goes to the bench. Larkin led the Red Wings with 6 shots on goal.

No. 3 Star: Mats Zuccarello, New York Rangers

Zucc scored the opening goal and the goal to ice the game 4-2 for the New York Rangers. In 1:17, Oscar Lindberg, Kevin Hayes, and Zuccarello scored the game tying goal, the go-ahead goal, and the goal to ice it, leaving just a over a minute to play in the game.

Honorable Mention: Jeff Blashill earned his first win as an NHL head coach with his Red Wings demolishing the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-0. Justin Abdelkader netted at hat-trick for Detroit. Henrik Zetterberg picked up 3 assists. Jimmy Howard stopped 22 shots in the shutout … Start planning the parade in Winnipeg. The Jets are 2-0 in the standings after beating the New Jersey Devils 3-1. John Tavares scored the first goal – for the Islanders – in Barclay’s Center history. Patrick Kane scored two goals, including the 3-on-3 overtime game winner … Brandon Saad picked up his first goal as a Columbus Blue Jacket in the team’s 4-2 loss to the Rangers. Ryan McDonagh was a plus-4 for the Rangers. With the win Friday night, Alain Vignault earned victory No. 100 as the Rangers coach … Mike Smith makes an incredible ninja/lucky save on Jeff Carter and then Tyler Toffoli scores:

Smith made 40 saves in the 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings. Zybnek Michalek was a plus-3 for the Coyotes.

Did You Know? Dylan Larkin is the first Detroit Red Wing teenager to score in his first game since Steve Yzerman did it in 1983. (ESPN)

Dishonorable Mention: Jonathan Bernier pulled after allowing 3 goals on 9 shots. Mike Babcock’s homecoming to Detroit was spoiled by the people he left behind. Mike Commodore reminded everyone he doesn’t like Babcock (NSFW) … New Devils head coach John Hynes will have to wait for another game before getting his first NHL win … Columbus’s Alexander Wennberg took a hard hit and continued to play a couple shifts before he went to the locker room for good. He was diagnosed with a concussion … Darryl Sutter’s post-game quote on Jonathan Quick, “He didn’t play very well, did he?” Yeeoww.
