NHL Three Stars: Dallas overcome bye-week curse; Lack shuts out Senators

No. 1 Star: Jamie Benn, Dallas Stars

The Stars were in their first game after their bye-week and seemed determined to buck the losing tradition of most other teams coming out of the bye. Benn led the charge for the Stars with an assist and a spectacular goal in the team’s 5-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes.

No. 2 Star: Eddie Lack, Carolina Hurricanes

The last time the Ottawa Senators won in Carolina was Dec. 12, 2007. Lack made sure the streak would continue by pitching a 34 save shutout. This is Lack’s second win of the season in six starts.

No. 3 Star: Matthew Tkachuk, Calgary Flames

The rookie earned an assist on Mikael Backlund’s goal that gave the Flames the lead over the Florida Panthers. He followed it up with an assist on Deryk Engelland’s goal that would stand as the game winner. The two points give him 41 on the season.

Honorable Mention: Tom Wilson scored his fifth goal of the season as the Washington Capitals beat the Edmonton Oilers, 2-1. Leon Draisaitl record his team leading 23rd goal of the year. Connor McDavid’s assist on Draisaitl’s goal puts him at 69 (nice) points total. Tyler Seguin led the Stars with 7 shots on goal. Martin Hanzal had a game high 8 shots on goal. He also increased his trade value with his 16th goal of the season with some help from Jordie Benn’s skate … Phillip Di Giuseppe and Jordan Staal skated away with two points in the ‘Canes 3-0 victory. Kris Versteeg played in his 600th NHL game … Chad Johnson improved to a 18-13-1 record with the Flames 4-2 win. Riley Smith assisted on both Panthers goals.
